The Foxes and the Crowing Turkey by Eliran Dayan 4 jan 2024
On Saturday morning, with mischief uncontained, The foxes ventured forth, their target preordained, They raided the chicken coop, feathers filled the air, Breaking eggs, devouring chickens, their intentions unfair.
The roosters screamed in terror, their cries loud and clear, As the foxes snatched away chicks they held dear, All sorts of fowl were taken, kidnapped without a trace, Leaving the owner fuming, longing for vengeance to embrace.
With resolve unyielding, at dawn he sought his retribution, Raiding the foxes' den, an act of furious resolution; He slew the predators, but alas, he did not find them all, Some kidnapped chicks remained missing within the forest's sprawl.
Far away from this mayhem, untouched by strife's demands, Lived a crowing turkey with vociferous commands; He shouted to all who would listen with disdain and glee: "The owner of the hen house is a killer! Can't you see?"
"The foxes are innocent; they never preyed on our domain, The chickens brought this upon themselves – it's plain! Why must they irritate us with their petulant cries? They should seek another home where they won't meet their demise."
The turkey's shrill proclamation echoed far and wide, "Cease fire! Cease fire! Now" he called out, his voice amplified; But nobody cared for that foolhardy rooster's plea; The chickens and chicks deserve their chance to flee and be free.
And then one day, unbeknownst to the turkey's clout, A lone fox emerged, ready to silence his shout; With predatory precision, he silenced the fowl's ire, While the echoes of "Cease fire!" soon expired.
The fox devoured the turkey, whose cries were in vain, His calls for peace fading as he became a fox's gain; In that chilling moment, he learned the price of his plea, As nature's law unfolded its dark reality.
